Sheridan County is located in the northeast corner of Wyoming about 25 miles from the Montana border and about 150 miles from the South Dakota border with a population of approximately 20,000 people. Sheridan is the county seat for the communities of Sheridan, Ranchester, Dayton, Big Horn, Clearmont and Story.

Sheridan was founded in 1882 by John D. Loucks and is the largest community in the county. The historic downtown is Sheridan's pride and joy. Located approximately 10 miles from the Red Grade side and 20 miles from the Dayton access to the Big Horn Mountains, the main industry is ranching with the railroad and coal bed methane playing an important part in its economic stability. Coal mining is very important and is located just over the Montana border, however, most of the employees live in Sheridan County.

Sheridan Community College founded in 1948 has grown steadily with an emphasis on Career Training, Workforce Development, Community Service Degrees and access to advanced degrees. Sheridan has one high school, one junior high school and 5 grade schools.

From the Wyo Rodeo to Buffalo Bill Days to snowmobiling and camping, there is something for everyone to do.
